The original idea for building the land rover wasn’t to design a fast vehicle, it was to help farmers with their day to day tasks when working on their land. Later on, when more land rovers were being created, their versatility meant they could be used in a variety of situations. For example, in the army, fire service and ambulance service. These situations didn’t require the vehicle to be fast, just reliable.
As the design and build of the land rover progressed throughout the years, customers were not just wanting a car that was highly capable off road, but was also fast on road.
In 2005 Land Rover released their first sport model, the Range Rover Sport. This vehicle was designed to be an SUV with the capability of reaching between 120 and 162 mph (depending on the model). The tables below show the specs available for the Range Rover Sport:
