About Land Rover

Land Rover is a british car company owned by Jaguar Land Rover. They specialise in creating four wheel drive cars. Over the years Land Rover have released a number of models, these include: the Series, Forward Control, Defender, Range Rover, Discovery, and the Freelander.

The first time that the brand was used was in 1948. From then, they have continued to be a British icon within the car industry. Land Rover's today are commonly purchased more for the luxury of the vehicle rather than the practical aspect. In previous years, the Land Rover was used in many ways, including converting them to be like fire engines. There is a lot of history with the Land Rover!

Listed below are a few important dates in Land Rover's history.

  • 1948

    On 30th April 1948 the first Land Rover was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show.

  • 1958

    Land Rover released the Series II.

  • 1961

    Land Rover started the production of the Series IIA.

  • 1970

    The Range Rover was released into the market.

  • 1971

    Land Rover released the Series III.

  • 1976

    The one-millionth Land Rover is created and sold.

  • 1987

    The Range Rover is released into the US market, due to popular demand.

  • 1989

    The first Land Rover Discovery is released.

  • 1994

    The Rover company was now owned by BMW. Land Rover released the second Range Rover and renamed the original to the Range Rover classic.

  • 1997

    Land Rover released a special edition Discovery for the North American market only. This was bright yellow, and included a roof rack and other off road modifications. Land Rover decided that they would only create 250 of this special edition Discovery.

  • 1997

    The Freelander was released.

  • 1998

    Land Rover released the Discovery 2.

  • 2000

    BMW decided to sell Land Rover for £1.8 billion to Ford.

  • 2002

    Land Rover released the Range Rover 3.

  • 2004

    The Land Rover Discovery 3 was released.

  • 2005

    The Range Rover Sport was released into the market.

  • 2006

    Land Rover released the Freelander 2.

  • 8th May 2007

    Land Rover creates and releases their 4,000,000th car, a Discovery 3. They decided to donate it to the Born Free Foundation.

  • 26th March 2008

    Ford decided to sell Jaguar Land Rover to Tata Motors. On 2nd June the purchase was finalised.

  • 2010

    The Land Rover Discovery 4/LR4 was released.

  • 2011

    Land Rover released the Range Rover Evoque.

  • 2012

    The Range Rover 4 was shown at the Paris Motor Show.

  • 2014

    Land Rover released the new Discovery at the New York Motor Show.
